Problem

Because of the overpopulation of cats in the shelter, most of those cats are surrendered by owners for issues that can be solved at home. Employees needed better training to understand how to fix common behavior problems at home.

Solution

After taking time to review current shelter procedures and processes, and observing
shelter employees in action. I sat down with stakeholders again to review my needs
analysis. Suggestions were made to the stakeholders on how to bridge the knowledge
gap. One of the solutions was an eLearning course in which this video was embedded.

Design and Development

In my typically design processes I like to combine the ADDIE method as well as Backwards Design. So I started the process by exploring what the Goal for the staff was after this course.

Working closely with the Director of Operations, we identified a crucial need to educate not only shelter staff but also the hundreds of volunteers who generously dedicate their time to help out. However, the traditional instructor-led training sessions proved to be overwhelming for volunteers, hindering the effectiveness of the educational efforts.

The Outcome: Following the completion of the course by all staff members, the shelter observed a remarkable 10% decrease in cat returns within the first 45 days of implementation. This tangible outcome underscores the effectiveness of the training program in equipping staff with the tools necessary to make a positive impact on the lives of both cats and their owners.

Takeaways

This training initiative exemplifies my commitment to leveraging innovative instructional design techniques to address real-world challenges effectively. By harnessing the power of well-crafted video imaging and storytelling, we not only educate but also inspire action and promote positive change within our community.

Let's build something impactful.
